Megabucks Slots

Details and Slots Guy's Review

About The Game

While there are many slot machine manufacturers, IGT offers the slot games with the biggest jackpots. These jackpots are all won on progressive slot machines. Progressive slots machines are usually linked with other slot machines in the same casino and slots in other casinos. The more players play these slots in all locations, the more money is added to the jackpot. The jackpot becomes progressively bigger until someone hits that jackpot. Megabucks slots jackpots tend to be the largest progressive jackpots won.

Progressive Jackpots

OK. The obvious question is...how much money can I win if I hit the Megabucks progressive jackpot? On the low side these progressive jackpot winners bring in around $8 Million. Yes, you read that right, On the LOW end. One lucky slot player won $39 Million on a Megabucks slots progressive jackpot win at the Excalibur casino in Las Vegas in 2003. Later that year, another Megabucks slots jackpot was won at Bally's Las Vegas. The most recent Megabucks progressive jackpot win took place on April 12, 2009 at Terrible's Rail City Casino in Sparks, Nevada. The jackpot was a little over $33 Million. As you can see, hitting the jackpot on the megabucks progressive slots can be a life changing event.

Progressive Slots Game Play

Most of these slots are 5-reel 60-payline slot machines. This is the classic version of the game. Please be aware that you must be wagering the max bet of $3 in order to qualify for the Megabucks progressive jackpot. There are stories out there of slot players hitting the progressive jackpot buy not qualifying for it because they did not wager the max amount.

Progressive Jackpot Curse

I couldn't write a page about the progressive slots jackpots without touching on the "Megabucks Curse". Everyone loves a great mystery. Great myths usually start with a grain of truth. Perhaps even with a tragedy. It then becomes a story and the story grows acquiring it's own mystique and becomes a myth. So it is with the "Megabucks Curse". It began when a former cocktail waitress won a progressive jackpot of a little more than $34 Million. A few short weeks later, her car was struck by a drunk driver. The accident confined her to a wheelchair and claimed the life of her sister. There are stories of minor children winning the jackpot, but, being unable to collect as their age renders them ineligible. A casino employee is rumored to have hit the Megabucks progressive jackpot and was likewise unable to collect. Another player is said to have hit the progressive jackpot but was not able to qualify because he had not wagered the max bet. The claims of the death of the $39 Million dollar winner at The Excalibur have proven to be baseless. IGT has confirmed that the man is still alive and kicking, living in an undisclosed location.

Where Can I Play?

These slots can only be played at land based casinos like those in Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City, they are not offered online. So, make sure you are eligible to play slots for real money before getting your hopes up.

My Experience

I must say I have tried my luck on these slots on a few occasions. Of course, I bet the max bet so I would be eligable for the Progressive. However, it has been may experience that these games don't tend to pay out well. This is probably because so much of the money is going toward the progressive. However, the allure of winning such a large progressive makes this slot worh playing for many.
