Harrah's Lake Tahoe
The eponymous casino property owned by Harrah's in the Lake Tahoe area is also arguably the real jewel of the region. Harrah's Lake Tahoe, situated in Stateline, is about as prestigious as it gets, and on the South Shore, it is most certainly regarded as a high-line destination.
Harrah's Lake Tahoe is a huge casino, with over 55,000 square feet of space. It features over 800 gaming machines, and there is very little worry about being shut out at a table, since there are 73 of them in all. They cover all the games, which includes baccarat, mini-baccarat, Pai Gow poker, Let It Ride, Three Card Poker, Caribbean Stud, keno and more. Of course, blackjack, craps and roulette are also available.
Harrah's has a number of different restaurants on-site. The American River Cafe is more in the coffee shop mold, and is open 24 hours a day. Fatburger serves up homemade hamburgers with a little imagination, as well as french fries and milk shakes. The Forest Buffet prides itself on being the best of its kind to be found in the Lake Tahoe area, and offers a great view of the lake from the 18th floor of the hotel. Friday's Station Steak & Seafood is the most upscale of the restaurants, and essentially
specializes in just what the name implies. It also offers a panoramic view of the Lake Tahoe area. Gi Fu Loh offers Cantonese cuisine on Fridays and Saturdays. The LA Italian Kitchen deals in light Italian fare (pizza, pasta, salads, sandwiches). Manchu Wok is open every day but Monday and serves authentic Chinese dishes directly out of the wok. You can eat at California Bar or Cliche (another bar) and there is also a Starbucks on the premises.
Entertainment is always on tap. Most of it would be classified as that which is rock-oriented, and appeals to a 35-54 demographic. Acts that have been scheduled for 201 include the likes of Air Supply, Chubby Checker, Joan Jett & The Blackbirds, Rick Springfield, Pablo Cruise, Dave Mason, Elvin Bishop and Blue Oyster Cult. Harrah's also houses a branch of the world-famous "Improv" featuring up-and-coming comedians.
There are 466 hotel rooms and 65 suites at Harrah's. They range in style from a "premium room," which you can get for as low as $99 a night, up to a "luxury suite" that could go as high as $800 a night. The luxury suites are equipped with two bathrooms with televisions, with a "refreshment center" and separate areas for sleeping and entertaining. Though you'll probably find higher prices than other venues on the South Shore, it is not the largest hotel; both Harvey's and the Lake Tahoe Horizon both have more rooms available. There are a lot of different "Stay & Play" packages that can include things like golf and skiing, as both of them are in great abundance in the area. There are also a number of "Hot Deals" that are offered on the website.
As far as added attractions are concerned, Harrah's Lake Tahoe is home to Reflections, a world-class spa, and the spectacular Vex Nightclub, where, among other things, aerial performers show their derring-do on rings way above the customers' heads as a mesmerizing light and sound show is unfolding.
Very rarely is there a dull moment at Harrah's.
