Big Win In The Big Easy

My wife and I went to Harrah’s in New Orleans earlier this week. They sent her an offer for three free nights. So, we figured what the hell? Why not? We arrived in New Orleans about noon on Sunday. One thing to keep in mind when you visit New Orleans and want to stay at Harrah’s is that Harrah’s New Orleans does not have a hotel that is attached to the casino. The casino sits down by the river at the end of Canal Street and is bounded by Canal St, S Peters St, and Poydras St which runs along two sides as it takes a turn down by the Hilton. A $960 Win on Star Spangled Sevens Slots

The wife and I went up to Choctaw Casino again last night. Hal did not make it this time. My wife did not fare too well this trip. As to myself, things started out well as I hit $260 on Gems and Jewels Slots. After that, I played about even for an hour and a half. Then, I took a break for a slice of pizza. Things went south immediately thereafter. I was down to around $100 when I hit this:

$960 Winner on Star Spangled Sevens Slots

Blue Seven, Star Spangle, Star Spangle. $960! Yes! I played the same machine for another half an hour and ran it up to around $1,260 and then played it down to $1,200 and cashed out. Continue reading

$3,500 Win on Star Spangled Sevens Slots

Hal went up to Choctaw Friday night and played slots in the old casino. He sat down at a $1 Star Spangled Sevens Slots machine and put a $100 bill into it. While he was playing that machine, he put a $20 bill into the machine on his right and hit triple red sevens on his second spin. He continued to play that machine for the rest of the evening and ran it up to $3,500.

He tells me he did not hit a jackpot, so, no IRS ticket, Nice!

Hal wins $3,200 on Elvis Slots

My wife and I met Hal up at Choctaw Casino on Saturday night. My wife started the evening off on a good note when she won $300 on a Gems and Jewels slots machine right when we walked in the door. She and Hal were playing them for a $1. Meanwhile, I was playing Star Spangled Sevens for a quarter nearby. We played a little longer without winning anything to write about and then went to eat the prime rib buffet. Continue reading

Harry Connick Jr at Winstar World Casino

Last night the wife and I made the drive up to Winstar World Casino to see Harry Connick Jr in concert. To be sure this was here idea. I went because that is what happens in any successful relationship, you give and you get. That, and I wanted the chance to hit the slots.

The women love this guy. Most of them were in their 30′s, 40′s and 50′s. And, most of them were behaving like star-struck teenage woo-girls. It was unbelievable, the amount of screaming a how nuts they were going for this guy. All of that aside, I have to admit that the guy puts on a good show. He is an engaging performer, with a good on-stage presence. And his is extremely talented. I would recommend catching his act – it will be worth the price of admission. Continue reading

The Great Miami Slots (er, Fruit Machine) Caper – Part 1

There seems to be a big dispute brewing between the city of Miami, the police department and local merchants as to what constitutes a slot machine and what isn’t a slot. At some local bars and restaurants, patrons are availing themselves of fruit machines that do not pay out in coins, but rather, allow the winners to simply keep playing another game or two.

Miguel Rotella, who owns and distributes the machines, says that what he is offering is harmless fun. “Everything is legal. We’re not delinquents,” he tells the Miami Herald. Yet the police claim that Rotella may be subject to arrest and have seized almost a dozen of his machines.

Where this gets interesting is that City Hall disagrees with the cops. Miguel Esposito, the chief of police in Miami, accused the mayor,. Tomas Regalado, of interfering with a raid the cops had planned for the hospitality establishments that have machines in them. Regalado’s position is that the machines can operate, as long as the operators pay a registration fee to the city and the machines are not used for gambling. The cops say otherwise, and that the nature of the machines constitutes a game of chance, and that they are justified in removing them. Truly this is a bizarre episode, and stay tuned, we’ll have more on it……

Hal wins $5k on Hot Red Ruby Slots

Hal called me earlier today to say that he went up to Choctaw Casino on Saturday, Jan 8th. Said he got off work at noon and decided on the way home to head up there for a couple of hours. He thought I would not want to go two days in a row. So, he did not call me to go along.

He was playing the $2 Hot Red Ruby Slots machine in the new part of the casino where eight machines surround a pillar outside the restrooms on the east side. His spin came up with a cherry and the screen turned red. On his re-spin, he won $5K. He also said that he won $1,500 on the Money Bags Slot Machine.

Then, on the way home, he stopped at the travel mart on the other side of the highway from the main casino and won another $500 in there! Nice haul for a couple of hours!

Big Wins at Choctaw Casino

The wife and I took trip to Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma on Friday 1-7-11. We met my friend Hal up there. First thing we did was go eat at the buffet. On Fridays, Choctaw has all you can eat snow crab legs for $20.99. Present you players club card and they knock $6 off of the price!

After gorging ourselves at the buffet, we hit the casino floor to play the slots. My wife was playing a Zeus Slots machine. Hal and I headed out on our own to do a little slot machine hopping. We both struck out on Gems and Jewels and Crazy Bill’s Gold Strike. Then we tried Star Spangled Sevens Slots and I hit $240 while Hal won somewhere around $200 as well.
